Step into a living archive of Britain’s railway heritage, captured through the lens of one dedicated enthusiast.
Plymouth Trains is more than a collection of photographs — it’s a journey through time, documenting the evolution of rail travel across the South West and beyond.
Since 2010, I’ve been photographing trains through a progression of trusted Nikon cameras — from the D60, to the D7000, and now the D7200. Each upgrade marks a new chapter, not just in technology, but in the ever-changing story of the railway itself.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed remarkable transformations: shifting liveries, modernised fleets, and the gradual farewell to icons of the past.
Among the most poignant moments has been documenting the final chapter of the legendary InterCity 125 High Speed Train — a symbol of British engineering that defined an era of speed and reliability. Capturing its last days wasn’t just photography; it was preserving history as it passed into memory.
This website is a growing project — built with passion, dedication, and respect for the railways. As it develops, it will showcase not just images, but stories, transitions, and the enduring spirit of the tracks that connect us.
Plymouth Trains is currently under construction — but more content, more history, and more journeys are on the way.
